We’re absolutely delighted to welcome our good friend Professor Carl Chinn back to Nortons this December – and just in time for a proper festive night out.
On Wednesday 10th December, Carl returns with a brand new illustrated talk all about Charles Dickens and A Christmas Carol. If you’ve seen him here before, you’ll know this isn’t your average history talk. His last one – on the real story behind the Peaky Blinders and the Irish Connection – was completely packed out, and had the whole pub hanging on every word.
Carl isn’t your average historian, he’s a born storyteller, an author, broadcaster, and a proper Brummie through and through. His passion for Birmingham’s people and history is infectious, he has that rare knack for bringing the past to life in a way that you can connect to. Whether he’s talking about working-class life, industry, or the characters that made this city what it is, there’s nobody better suited to sharing these excerpts of the past.
This time around, he’ll be exploring Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, diving into its themes, its connection to Birmingham, its legacy, and why it still hits home all these years later. Expect a night full of festive spirit, fascinating stories, and maybe a few surprises along the way! All shared in your favourite pub in the Irish Quarter.
We’re proud to call Carl a friend of Nortons, and it’s a real honour to have him back. The last one sold out fast, so if you want to join us for a pint, a bit of history, and a cracking night of storytelling, grab your tickets now!
