We’ve got a top class month ahead, with a run of events that mix local history, festive chaos and a bit of Celtic fire to round things off. If you’re looking for things to get stuck into as the nights draw in and Christmas creeps up, here’s a quick look at what’s we have in store!
First up is An Evening with Carl Chinn on Wednesday 10th December. Carl’s illustrated talks always pull in a crowd, and it’s easy to see why. He’s got that rare knack for turning Birmingham’s past into something you can picture happening right in front of you. This time he’s diving into Dickens, Victorian Birmingham and the roots of Christmas as we know it. If you’ve got even the slightest interest in local history, this one’s well worth a night out – proper storytelling, and a chance to learn something new about the city we all knock about in.
The day after, on Thursday 11th December, we switch gears entirely with Crisp MASS, the latest creation from Foka Wolf and Tat Vision. Anyone who came to their previous Christmas shows – Piss Mass and Fist Mass – will know they don’t hold back. It’s part panto, part gig, part art auction, part whatever else they feel like throwing in on the night. Expect loud moments, strange moments, clever bits, stupid bits and a line-up that jumps all over the place in the best way. It’s one of those nights where you don’t quite know what you’re walking into, which is half the fun.
Then on Thursday 18th December, we’ve got Toss The Feathers in for a Christmas party. They’re one of those bands you hear once and instantly understand why people follow them around. Proper musicians, years on the road, and a sound that blends traditional Irish tunes with something more modern and driving. It’s lively without being messy, tight without feeling too polished, and perfect for a December night with a pint in hand. If you’re into trad, folk, rock or anything in between, it’s a guaranteed good evening!
Three very different nights, each with its own thing going on, and all worth sticking in the diary. December’s always busy, but if you’re looking for reasons to head out rather than hibernate, these should do the job!
