Covid Passports, what’s the craic then?
The short of it … not much of a difference. Nortons is both a pub and a live music venue. The pub and live music side of things is largely unaffected. However our late license on Fridays and Saturdays mean we fall within the government’s definition of a “late night venue”. We’ve come up with a plan however that should keep every pint-supper and partygoer happy.
Sunday – Thursday:
Business as usual. We’re closed before 1am so No need for a vaccine pass, just turn up, drink pints, talk bollocks, eat Taytos, and at some point, go home.
Friday & Saturday Until 9pm:
Still business as usual. Pints, bollocks, Taytos, repeat.
Friday & Saturday after 9pm:
From 9pm on Friday and Saturday however, all customers will be required to show a covid pass on entry or proof of a negative lateral flow within 48 hours. These customers will be given a wristband (or tagged through the ear like cattle at an auction) and allowed to remain in the venue beyond 1am.
And that’s it. Simple really.

We want Nortons to be both a safe and fun space. Covid19 is a nasty virus, there’s obvious measures we can put in place, we’ve all got to play our part, people are still getting very ill and we are taking things very seriously. The vaccine passport / testing is a minor pain in the arse. That being said, the mood across hospitality at the moment is very anxious, as the government messaging of “don’t go to the pub but do go to the pub” is worryingly familiar to the rhetoric we saw in March 2020.
For those that want to go back to those old familiar days we’d established in our 2 months of trading pre-covid: live music, DJs, walk-ins without reservations, ordering at the bar, leaning in the corners, vertical drinking, singing and dancing and overpriced drinks are still very much our thing. This hasn’t changed at all.
For those who want things a bit more measured – we get that. We’ve updated our table service app, you can still reserve tables online, certain areas inside have reduced capacity, ventilation and sanitiser stations are still in place and our beer garden is still heated, covered and now live streaming sports and our live music to a brand-new big screen.
We’ve got everything covered, so please, keep coming back, keep having the craic and we’ll see you all at the bar!
